Waltair Railway Division earns revenue of Rs.8,498 crore in FY21-22
The Waltair division which is part of East Coast Railway (ECoR) Zone has set a new record by handling a freight traffic of 66.88 million tonne in 2021-22 financial year compared to 61.18 million tonne during last fiscal achieving a growth of 9.33%.

Visakhapatnam The Waltair division which is part of East Coast Railway (ECoR) Zone has set a new record by handling a freight traffic of 66.88 million tonne in 2021-22 financial year compared to 61.18 million tonne during last fiscal achieving a growth of 9.33%.
The division earned Rs.7,972.10 crore from freight traffic as against Rs.7,272.86 crore in the last financial year which is again 8.74% more than the previous year.
Waltair division showed best-ever performance in the financial year despite various constraints with its overall performance scaling new heights in the revenue generation to the tune of Rs.8,498 cores which is 11.44% more than the previous year.
The division has excelled in all fields despite insurmountable hardships like natural calamities, strikes and Naxal attacks particularly the frequent and regular Maoist activities in the crucial freight corridors of KK line in the peak period of the financial year, Divisional Railway Manager A.K. Satpathy said.
With dedicated team work with consistent and relentless efforts, the performance index attained good heights. The division's consistent performance has also contributed in achieving the ECoR to set a new record during 2021-22 financial year by loading 232 million tonne of freight from its jurisdiction which is the highest ever freight loading by any zone in Indian Railways.
Waltair division focused on infrastructural development as well as concentrated on safety, security and improvement of passenger amenities. In the passenger front the division ferried 12.41 million passengers in the financial year that fetched Rs.415.27 crore-198% more than the previous year earnings of Rs.139.30 crore.
The super cyclones in various parts of the division and in different parts of the country disrupted the traffic that led to decrease in the passenger traffic as well as freight traffic. The pandemic third wave in the first quarter of the financial year also affected the traffic.
Satpathy said apart from the loading and passenger movement, the division set many firsts in its innovative concepts focusing on improvement of passenger amenities with world-class concepts and to generate revenue through non-fare revenue systems. The non-fare revenue contributed an amount of Rs.3.25 crore against the target of Rs.2.86 crore.
Moreover, the division has concentrated on ticket checking activities to check the ticketless travelers. Intensive checking drives were organised in the financial year 2021-22 that resulted in finding out 2,60,850 cases of ticketless travel, unbooked luggage and irregular tickets leading to realisation of Rs.16.02 crore as fare and penalty.
